Introduction: The Most Important Question
Jesus once asked His disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). Peter responded with one of the most profound confessions in history: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).
This is not just a theological statement — it is the foundation of the Christian faith. If Jesus is not the Son of God, then Christianity collapses. But if He is, then every knee must bow and every heart must surrender.
The Testimony of Scripture
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible points to Jesus. The Old Testament foreshadows Him; the New Testament reveals Him.
Isaiah 9:6 prophesies: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Notice: He is called “Mighty God” — not a lesser divine being, but God Himself.
Micah 5:2 declares: “But you, O Bethlehem… are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.” This ruler’s “origin is from of old, from ancient days” — an eternal existence.
The New Testament Declaration
When Jesus came, the heavens opened and the Father said: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).
Angels announced His birth as the Savior, Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). Demons cried out, “I know who you are — the Holy One of God!” (Mark 1:24).
But the clearest declarations come from Jesus Himself.
Jesus Claimed to Be God
In John 8:58, Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I AM.” The Jews immediately picked up stones to stone Him — not for blasphemy of a man, but because He claimed the divine name YHWH (Exodus 3:14).
In John 10:30, He said, “I and the Father are one.” Again, the Jews sought to stone Him, saying, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
Jesus did not correct them — He affirmed it.
The Resurrection: God’s Stamp of Approval
Romans 1:4 says He was “declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead.”
No other religious leader has risen from the dead. But Jesus did — and appeared to over 500 witnesses (1 Corinthians 15:6).
Why This Matters
If Jesus is not the Son of God:
- His death means nothing.
- His resurrection is a myth.
- Our faith is in vain (1 Corinthians 15:17).
But because He is the Son of God:
- His sacrifice atones for sin.
- His resurrection gives us eternal life.
- His return is certain.
False Teachings to Avoid
Some say:
- “Jesus was just a good teacher.”
- “He never claimed to be God.”
- “He’s a created being.”
These are not biblical. They are refuted by the clear testimony of Scripture.
Conclusion: Worship the Son
The Bible commands: “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only” (Luke 4:8). And yet, Jesus received worship — from the blind man (John 9:38), from the disciples (Matthew 14:33), and from Thomas: “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Jesus accepted it — because He is worthy.
Jesus is the Son of God. Believe it. Proclaim it. Live for Him.
“These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” — John 20:31
